The Department of Talmud is dedicated to studying and teaching the Oral Torah, exploring its philological, literary, historical, and legal aspects. The literature taught includes the Oral Torah literature throughout its generations, namely: the literature of the Tannaim and Amoraim; Aggadic literature; and rabbinic literature created from the closing of the Talmud until the present day. In introductory courses, department students learn the approaches and methods of academic research in each field; read the primary texts and research literature; are exposed to problems arising from the scientific study of texts; and acquire and apply research tools. In advanced courses, students deepen their familiarity with various scientific methodologies prevalent in each field.
The department is open to all and places great importance on accepting students from diverse backgrounds.
The department offers several scholarships to its students based on academic excellence and financial need.
