The Library of the Department of Talmud and Oral Law contains a wide range of books in the fields of Talmud, Oral Law, Aggadah, and related subjects. The library also houses collections of Talmudic manuscripts.

Talmudic Manuscripts

The Library of Photographs of Talmudic Manuscripts of the Naftal Center is located opposite the Department of Talmud office. The library contains a large collection of manuscript photographs, with over 1,600 items, primarily of the Mishnah and Babylonian Talmud, as well as the Tosefta, Jerusalem Talmud, Midrashim, Geonic literature, and works of the Rishonim.

The collection includes complete and partial manuscripts, as well as Genizah fragments. Details regarding the manuscripts, their contents, and their holding libraries can be found in the library catalog. Please note: the catalog is intended to assist in locating the required photographs; however, for precise bibliographic information regarding a manuscript, one should consult the manuscript catalog of the National Library. Visitors may examine the manuscript photographs and may also photograph those for which reproduction permission has been granted.

The Institute for Research in Post-Talmudic Halakhah also maintains a large collection of photographs of manuscripts of Rashi’s commentary on the Talmud. This collection is likewise housed in the Department of Talmud, although it has not yet been incorporated into the library catalog.

Master’s theses and doctoral dissertations written by students in Talmud and Oral Law may also be found in the department’s thesis and dissertation database.
